Regulations for Abstracts 70TH CBA
INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMISSION AND PRESENTATION OF ABSTRACTS
1. ORGANIZATION:
1.1 The 70th Brazilian Congress of Anesthesiology (CBA) aims to promote Continuing Education for Anesthesiologists.
1.2 The 70th CBA is organized by the Brazilian Society of Anesthesiology (SBA) and will take place from November 26 to 29, 2025, in Salvador – Bahia.
1. The final decision of the CBA Scientific Committee regarding the approval of abstracts is definitive and cannot be appealed.
2. SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS:
2.1 To submit abstracts, at least one of the authors must be registered for the Congress. If not yet registered, click here to complete your registration.
2.2 Registration Data: Ensure that all co-authors' details (full name, passport number, email, and institution) are accurate, including those of the presenter and principal author. The author responsible for the submission must verify that all data are correct.
2.3 Each abstract may have a maximum of six (6) co-authors, including one (1) principal author and five (5) co-authors.
2.4 The principal author must be the first name entered at the time of submission. For publication in the CBA 2025 e-supplement, the principal author will be considered the one listed first in the authors’ list.
2.5 Each author may submit up to six (6) abstracts.
2.6 Abstracts in both Portuguese and English will be accepted for submission.
2.7 Submission must be made through the Congressman Area using the access details received via email upon registration.
2.8 At the time of submission, it is not possible to choose the presentation format. The presentation format, either oral or e-poster, is determined by the cut-off score defined by the CBA Scientific Committee.
2.9 Editing/Correction: Authors may edit or replace submitted abstracts through the Congress Participant Area until the submission deadline, as outlined in item 4 of this document. It is recommended that the manuscript be prepared in a word processor, thoroughly reviewed, and that the character count (including spaces) be verified and approved by all authors before submission. Ensure that the text is clear and objective. Pay attention to proper grammar usage and identify abbreviations within the text.
2.10 After the final submission deadline, no further changes or corrections will be allowed. If the responsible author deletes the abstract from the submission system after the deadline, it will automatically be considered as not submitted.
2.11 The list of approved abstracts will be published on the event website, and participants can check their abstract status in the Congressman Area as “approved for oral presentation,” “approved for e-poster presentation,” or “rejected.”
2.12 Abstract Exclusion: Once the evaluation period has ended, submitted abstracts may not be withdrawn from the Congress.
2.13 The inclusion of co-authors will not be allowed after the submission is finalized.
3. SPECIFICATIONS FOR ABSTRACTS:
3.1 Two groups of studies will be accepted: SCIENTIFIC STUDY and CASE REPORTS. The accepted types of studies are listed below:
- Scientific Study: Case-Control; Cohort; Randomized Clinical Trial; Experimental Study; Observational Study; Narrative Review; Systematic Review; and Systematic Review with Meta-analysis.
- Case Reports: Case Report and Case Series.
3.2 Abstracts must focus on research areas related to:
- Cardiovascular and Thoracic Anesthesia
- Head, Neck, Otolaryngologic and Ophthalmologic Anesthesia
- Anesthesia and Sedation Outside the Operating Room
- Geriatric Anesthesia
- Obstetric Anesthesia
- Pediatric Anesthesia
- Regional Anesthesia
- Intensive Care and Infectious Diseases
- Neuromuscular Diseases and Medications
- Health Economics
- Education/Continuous Professional Development
- Pharmacology
- Airway Management
- Pain Medicine / Palliative Care
- Perioperative Medicine
- Neuroscience and Neuroanesthesia
- Patient Safety / Quality / Occupational Health
- Hematologic System, Coagulation, Transfusion, and Fluid Resuscitation
- Respiratory System and Sleep Medicine
- Endocrine and Metabolic Systems
- Gastrointestinal and Hepatic Systems

3.3 TITLE: Concise and related to the study’s objectives and results (maximum of 160 characters).
3.4 DESCRIPTION: Maximum of 3,000 characters, including spaces. The digital submission system will automatically count the characters.
3.5 Studies based on scientific methods (clinical trials, case-control studies, cohort studies, etc.) must include the following sections: “Justification and Objectives,” “Methods,” “Results,” “Conclusions,” and “References.” Before submission, refer to the EQUATOR Network for proper formatting: https://www.equator-network.org/.
3.6 Studies not based on scientific methods (case reports, case series descriptions, etc.) must include the following sections: “Introduction,” “Case Report” or “Case Series Description,” “Discussion,” and “References.” For this type of study, follow the CARE or ACRE guidelines from the EQUATOR Network: https://www.equator-network.org/
3.7 FIGURES AND TABLES: Figures and tables may be included as long as they follow the format specifications (jpg, jpeg, png).
3.8 Under no circumstances should there be any acknowledgments, product endorsements, or references that could imply commercial promotion. Medications should be cited by their generic names, and equipment should be referenced by their product specifications.
3.9 Abstracts based on articles that have already been published by the submission date will not be accepted. However, if the article has been submitted and is under review or awaiting publication, the abstract may be submitted.
3.10 The main text must be entered in the “Description” field as a single continuous paragraph, including all manuscript sections.
3.11 The text must not contain the name(s) of the author(s), the institution where they belong, or where the study was conducted.
3.12 ETHICS COMMITTEE: Case reports must have consent or approval from an Ethics Committee for Research Involving Human Subjects (CEP). If the institution does not have a CEP, approval may be given by the Clinical Board. The signed Informed Consent Form (ICF) from the patient or legal guardian must be attached to the abstract submission. For cases where obtaining the ICF is not possible, publication authorization from the CEP or Clinical Board is required.
3.13 REFERENCES: Each abstract must include at least one (1) and no more than two (2) references. Citation format examples are provided in the regulations.
3.14 KEYWORDS: Include up to three (3) keywords according to Health Sciences Descriptors (DeCS): https://decs.bvsalud.org/
3.15 CONFLICT OF INTEREST AND FUNDING: Declare any conflicts of interest and funding sources for the submitted work.

5. PRESENTATIONS:
5.1 Presentations must be submitted by the final deadline, as described in item 4 of this regulation.
5.2 Approved submissions that fail to submit presentation files – whether oral or digital poster – within the established deadline will be considered canceled, will not receive a certificate, and will not be published in the e-supplement of the CBA in the Brazilian Journal of Anesthesiology (BJAN).
5.3 Templates for Abstract presentations, both in e-poster and oral presentation formats, will be available for download in the Congressman Area and the Abstracts section of the CBA 2025 website. These templates contain editable text boxes as layout guides for formatting. The text boxes must be completed according to the required topics outlined in items 3.5 and 3.6 of these regulations.
5.4 Only submissions made through the Congressman Area will be accepted. Submissions sent by other means, such as email, will be disregarded.
5.5 Images, graphs, and tables are allowed in oral and e-poster presentations. In the e-poster format, the author must ensure that all required elements fit within the designated space of one (1) page/slide.
5.6 The font for e-poster format must be Arial, size 12, to ensure legibility.
5.7 Approved oral presentations have no slide limit but must adhere to the 6-minute presentation duration, as described in item 5.8.
5.8 E-poster and oral presentations must not exceed 6 minutes. The evaluator will have 4 minutes for discussion, totaling 10 minutes per presentation.
5.9 Presentations will be organized into 1-hour blocks. It is the author’s responsibility to be present at the scheduled location to present. The order of presentations will be determined by the arrival order of presenters within the allocated block. Other presentations will be scheduled for the same time.
5.10 The 20 best Abstracts approved for oral presentation will be presented in the CBA Arena, located on the ground floor of the Exhibition Fair, on November 27, at a time pre-determined by the Organizing Committee. The top Abstracts will have a dedicated presentation day.
5.11 It is the author’s responsibility to verify the approved presentation format (e-poster or oral presentation). No substitutions will be allowed after the deadline.
5.12 Presentation dates, times, and locations may be changed at any time by the Organizing Committee without prior notice. Presentations will be evaluated over four days, from November 26 to 29, in the morning and afternoon. Authors must check their presentation schedule in the Congressman Area.
5.13 If the presenter is unable to attend, any co-author may substitute them, provided they are registered for the 70th CBA.
5.14 A presenter who fails to appear or does not send a co-author as a substitute at the scheduled time and location will not have their work published in the BJAN Abstracts special edition. Additionally, they may not be invited to participate in the official CBA scientific program, except in cases of justified reasons submitted to the Scientific Committee within 30 days after the CBA ends.
5.15 Medical certificates for primary authors will only be accepted to waive penalties if none of the co-authors are registered for the 70th CBA.
5.16 After the submission deadline, no modifications or corrections will be allowed. If the responsible author deletes the submission from the system after the deadline, it will automatically be considered as not submitted.
6. AWARD:
6.1 DR. ZAIRO EIRA GARCIA AWARD: Approved submissions will compete for the Best Abstract Award, evaluated by the Abstract Judging Committee designated by SBA. The award consists of an amount equivalent to five (5) annual memberships of the Brazilian Society of Anesthesiology (SBA), to be equally divided among all authors. Taxes will be withheld according to Brazilian law.
7. CERTIFICATION:
7.1 CERTIFICATE: A single certificate will be issued by approved submission.
7.2 No separate certificate will be issued for the presenter. However, the presenter's name will be included in the certificate, subject to local check-in at the Abstracts area with an official ID.
7.3 The order of names on the certificate will follow the order of registration in the Abstract submission area within the Congressman Area.
7.4 Only submissions that complete all three stages of the Abstracts process will be considered approved and eligible for certification: (1) abstract approval, (2) submission of presentation files (PDF for digital posters or PPT for oral presentations), and (3) in-person presentation at CBA 2025.
8. PUBLICATION IN CONGRESS PROCEEDINGS:
8.1 Abstracts presented at the congress will be published in the event e-supplement of the Brazilian Journal of Anesthesiology (BJAN).
8.2 As stated in item 5.10, approved submissions that are not presented in person will not be included in the proceedings.
8.3 As stated in item 3.12, Case Reports submitted without mandatory documentation may or may not be approved at the evaluator's discretion but will not be published in the proceedings or submitted as full articles.
9. FINAL CONSIDERATIONS:
9.1 Any situations not covered in this regulation will be resolved by the Scientific Committee of the 70th Brazilian Congress of Anesthesiology.
